This year, the overall ranking of the Times Best Global Universities will include 2,000 more great universities than last year. This year's global university ranking features universities from 95 nations, up five from last year's total of 90. There will also be 47 separate subject rankings, up from 43 the year before. These rankings will include clinical medicine, computer science, and engineering.The top universities in Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia/New Zealand, and Latin America will again be ranked regionally. Additionally, country-specific rankings will be presented once again this year. In the 2022-2023 edition, we will show rankings for more than 45 countries, including Canada, France, India, China, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, South Korea, Japan, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, which all have a lot of ranked universities.

In the 2022-2023 edition, we will show rankings for more than 45 countries, including Canada, France, India, China, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, South Korea, Japan, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, which all have a lot of ranked universities.

The overall rankings are based on how active a university or institution is in teaching (the learning environment), research, and service (volume, income, and reputation), citations (research influence), international perspectives (faculty, students, and research), and business income (knowledge transfer). Our research shows that citations (research influence) are a good measure of a university's "role in spreading new ideas and knowledge." It makes up 30% of the total rankings from the bibliometric dataset, which is a collection of all published data. Both the Research Productivity indicator, which is worth 6% of the total ranking score, and the International Collaboration indicator, which is worth 2.5% of the total ranking score, come from the same comprehensive bibliometric database.

  1. Based on our criteria, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is still the best school in the world for the eleventh year.
  2. The University of Cambridge comes in second
  3. Followed by Stanford University and Harvard University, which stay in third and fifth place, respectively, as they did last year.
  4. On the other hand, Oxford University dropped to fourth place from second place the year before.

Global trends of the Universities - Country-wise

Our Director of Research gave an overview of important global trends and changes we've seen from this year's rankings.

More universities will be considered for rankings in eight of the currently available 43 academic areas. Bringing the overall number of places in the rankings for computer science to 750 is a rise of 250. In mechanical engineering, civil engineering, gastroenterology and hepatology, infectious disease, and polymer science, 100 more schools have been ranked. It brings the total number of rated schools to 200. The combined rankings for food science and technology, radiology, nuclear medicine, and medical imaging will rise by 50 to 250. The times global rankings were made using a method based on metrics that measured research output. Clarivate provided the data and measurements. The total rating looks at bibliometric measures like citations and publications to determine how successful a university's research is and how well it is known internationally and in its region.

For the rankings of each field of study, we use a different set of criteria that looks at how well each field does in terms of scholarly research. These rankings don't show how well individual colleges or schools are, like a university's MBA or MD programs. We use a number of quantitative measures, like the number of articles and citations, as well as indicators of how well-known each subject is globally and locally.
