IELTS Band Scores: How they are calculated

The scoring system for the IELTS exam is different for each module, but the score ranges from 0 to 9, with a 0.5 increment.
The descriptors specify the progression of each skill which is graded on a CEFR (Common European

Framework of Reference) scale: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2.

CEFR-IELTS Score: (C2 9.0/8.5) (C1-8.0/7.5/7.0) (B2-6.5/6.0/5.5) (B1 5.0/4.5/4.0)
The Listening and Reading Band is calculated by converting the raw score to a band as per the scoring system, whereas Writing and Speaking are marked as per various language parameters.
WRITING:

• The language parameters based on which Writing is scored are Task Achievement (Task-1)/Task Response (Task-2), Coherence and Cohesion, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, and Lexical Resource.
Each of these is scored out of 9, and then average individual scores for each task are used for the final score.
• The final score is calculated by adding the marks for task 2 twice and task 1 once; the average of three scores is the final band.
• For example, if you scored 6.0 in task 1 and 7.0 in task 2, the overall Writing score of 20/3 would be band 6.5.
