GRE Exam Pattern

The globally accepted GRE test format is designed to assess your overall knowledge of mathematics, language comprehension, the finesse of English essay writing, and your sense of logical reasoning. The GRE pattern is detailed further:
Verbal Reasoning
This section has been devised to assess the ability of a student to comprehend complex English passages. The Verbal Reasoning section of the GRE pattern includes questions on reading comprehension, text completion, and sentence equivalence.
Quantitative Reasoning
This section contains problems based on Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry & Data Analysis. You must strategize & solve various mathematical questions to arrive at an answer quickly. It ensures that you can apply logic effectively.
Analytical Writing
Analytical Writing is a GRE section that assesses your argumentative skills and articulation. The University uses your essay score to evaluate your language skills to indicate how well you will communicate during your course.
The pattern of the GRE Computer-based Test
The computer-based GRE is the world's most widely used foreign university admissions test. The GRE uses the following pattern of question papers to assess students:
  • The paper is divided into six sections.
  • 1 section of 2 analytical writing tasks
  • There are 20 verbal reasoning questions in each section.
  • Two sections of 20 quantitative reasoning questions each
  • Unscored Section
  • Research Section
The GRE is given twice a year. Because the exam is written, students are asked specific questions of varying difficulty levels, and this paper is longer than the GRE computer-based test.
Paper-based GRE Exam Pattern

The GRE paper-based test pattern is as follows:

  • 1 section with 2 Analytical Writing tasksĀ
  • Two sections with 50 Verbal Reasoning questions
  • 50 Quantitative Reasoning questions divided into two sections
The test follows the same pattern as the GRE computer-based exam, and GRE taken at home is similar to GRE taken at the center because it is administered. The paper will have the same 3 sections as before, plus an unscored/research section.
