Worried because one week remains before the IELTS exam? Well, you can still do a lot to score better. Here’s a list of some extensive ways to prepare yourself in just 7 days for the language proficiency test, IELTS:
7 days before the exam: Vocab-building
• Start reading topic-specific vocabulary. Make a list of different topics usually covered in the test, for example, crime and punishment, environment, wildlife, charity etcetera.
• This process should take around 6-7 hours. Cover as many topics as you can and create your list, either write them or type them with meaning and sentence examples. • Read the list whenever possible throughout the following week.
6 days before the exam: Know your mistakes and work on them
• Lay out your past mistakes for each module. Begin with Writing as that will be your first component in the exam as well. Here you might want to contact a certified IELTS trainer.
• The Listening and Reading mistakes can be identified by you if know how they are marked • For the mistakes in Speaking, you may again take guidance from a genuine source.
5 days before the exam: Rewrite essays and read samples
• Rewrite at least 5 such essays that you found were difficult for you to explain. 40 minutes each means about 3 and a half hours.
• The remaining time is to be spent on reading sample answers for writing. Additionally, watching mock interviews on YouTube for the speaking module.
4 days before the test: Read newspapers and other news material
• Your information base must be as broad as possible. Find a good English newspaper and start reading international news.
• Read the editorial section and make a list of words or phrases you think are difficult to understand.
• Notice how every article has a logical progression of information. You must spend about 4 to 5 hours on one newspaper to understand the logic.
3 days before the test: Trainer’s guidance
• Meet your trainer to clear doubts and appear for the speaking mock at least 4 times. Ask questions. No question is silly at this stage as you might feel nervous and the trainers understand that.
2 days before the test: work on your latest mistakes
• As mentioned before there are 5 whole tests that you have solved this week so now is the time to review them and notice the mistakes made to avoid repeating them on the day of the exam.
1 day before the exam: Relax
• Try to relax as you need to save your energy for the final test. To distract yourself from the stress, watch a light-hearted English movie or listen to a podcast. Remember to have a healthy meal each day.
