Key facts about U.S. immigration policies and Biden’s proposed changes

The Biden administration's U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 represents a paradigm shift in U.S. immigration policies, advocating for policies that will make the path to citizenship easier for immigrants, such as legal status and green card
Unauthorized Immigrants' Legal Status
To give new undocumented immigrants a path to legal status. This legislation would allow approximately seven million unauthorized immigrants to apply for deportation relief, work permits, and driver's licenses
Family-Based Immigration (Chain Immigration)
This program allows you to receive a green card if they already have a spouse, child, sibling, or parent living in the country with US citizenship or a green card. It has become the most common way to obtain green cards.
Refugee admissions
For the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2021, the Biden administration has increased the refugee cap to 12,500. The policies of the Trump administration discouraged refugee admissions.
Employment-based green cards
The proposal would permit the use of unused visa slots from previous years and the receipt of green cards by spouses & children of employment-based visa holders without counting them against the annual cap.
Diversity visas (visa lottery):
The Biden administration has proposed legislation to increase the annual total to 80,000 diversity visas. The U.S. diversity visa programme grants approximately 50,000 green cards each year
H-1B visas
From 2007 to 2019, nearly 2 million H-1B visas were issued. The Biden administration has approved numerous changes to the old H-1B visa policy and legislation to provide permanent work permits to H-1B visa holders' spouses
Temporary Permissions
A small number of undocumented immigrants who arrived in the United States under unusual circumstances have been granted temporary legal permission to stay. However, they do not have a legal path to permanent residence.
