What is GPA ?

The Grade Point Average is a figure that represents how well you performed in your courses. It tracks your academic achievement on a scale from 1.0 to 4.0, which determines whether you satisfy the requirements established by the university.
High school vs. college
Depending on the value of the course, your institution will assign each course a specific number of "units" or "credits". Most courses in high school have the same value, however, this is not the case in college.
The scale
The grade point average (GPA) uses a scale of A–F. There are a set number of grade points for each grade. ‘A’ passing grade earns four points, a ‘B’ three points, a ‘C’ two, a ‘D’ one, and an ‘F’ zero points.
The lowest
Depending on the institution, different schools have different minimum GPA requirements, although a 2.0 GPA is often the lowest, you'll find. Admission will be challenging with such low averages, though.
Must have
It is advised that you maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be a competitive applicant at most American colleges; if you're aiming for admission to renowned universities, it should be at least 3.5.
Your GPA is crucial for your entrance to universities as well as your continued attendance at them. You will be put on academic probation if you are unable to keep your GPA at 2.0 or higher for the duration of a semester.
